Judas agrees to betray Jesus
- And the Feast of Unleavened Bread, called “Passover”, was approaching.
- And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they could kill Him, for they were fearing the people.
- And Satan entered into Judas, the man called “Iscariot”, him being one of the twelve numbered disciples.
- And having departed, he conversed with the chief priests and magistrates about how he could betray Him to them.
- And they rejoiced and agreed to give him silver.
- And he promised, and was seeking an opportunity to betray Him to them when He was apart from the crowd.
Preparation for the Passover
- And the day of unleavened bread came, on which it’s necessary for the Passover lamb to be sacrificed.
- And He sent Peter and John, having said: “Go prepare the Passover for us so we can eat it.”
- And they said to Him: “Where do you want us to prepare?”
- And He told them: “Behold, once you entered into the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him into the house into which he enters.
- “And you will say to the master of the house: “The teacher says to you: “Where is the guest room where I might eat the Passover with My disciples?”
- “And that man will show you a large, furnished upper room; prepare there.”
- And having departed, they found it just as He had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
The Last Supper
- And when the hour came, He reclined at the table, and the apostles were with Him.
- And He said to them: “I yearned with great yearning to eat this Passover with you before I am to suffer,
- “for I tell you that I definitely won’t eat it any longer, until it’s fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”
- And having welcomed the cup and given thanks, He said: “Take this and distribute it among yourselves,
- “for I tell you that from now on, I definitely won’t drink from the fruit of the vine until that time when the kingdom of God comes.
- And having taken the bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying: “This is My body, the body given for your benefit; do this in remembrance of Me.”
- And likewise, He took the cup after the meal, saying: “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, the blood poured out for your benefit.
- “Nevertheless, behold, the hand of the man betraying Me is on the table with Me,
- “because the Son of Man is indeed departing in accordance with what was *appointed. Nevertheless, woe to that man through whom He is betrayed.”
- And they began to debate among themselves about which of them it may be who‘s about to do this.
Who is greater, testing, and Peter’s denial predicted
- And a contentious dispute happened among them about which of them is considered to be greater.
- But He told them: “The kings of the gentiles rule over them, and the men exercising authority over them are called ‘benefactors’.
- “But you shall not be this way, but let the greater man among you become like the younger man, and the man leading become like the man serving.
- “For who is greater: the man reclining at the table or the man serving? Isn’t the man reclining at the table certainly greater? But I am in your midst as the One serving.
- “And you are the men who *remained with Me in My trials.
- “And I’m appointing a kingdom to you, just as My Father appointed it to Me,
- “so that you might eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
- “Simon, Simon, behold; Satan demanded to sift you men like wheat.
- “But I Myself prayed for you, so that your faith might not fail. And you, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
- And he told Him: “Lord, I’m prepared even to go to prison and to death with you.”
- And He said: “I tell you, Peter, the rooster won’t crow today until you deny knowing Me three times.”
- And He told them: “When I sent you out without money-purse, and food pouch, and sandals, you didn’t lack anything, did you?” And they said: “Nothing.”
- And He said to them: “But now, let the man having a money-purse carry it; and likewise, carry a traveler’s bag; and let the man not having a sword, sell his cloak and buy one.
- “For I tell you that this thing *written must be fulfilled by me: “And He was counted with lawless men, for the things written about Me must have their fulfillment.
- And they said: “Lord, behold, here are two swords.” And He told them: “It’s sufficient.”
Jesus on the Mount of Olives
- And having gone out, He went to the Mount of Olives in accordance with His custom, and the disciples also followed Him.
- And having come upon the place, He told them: “Pray not to enter into temptation.”
- And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw. And having knelt His knees to the ground, He was praying,
- saying: “Father, take this cup from Me if you’re willing. Nevertheless, not My will, but your will be done.”
- And an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him.
- And having been in anguish, He was praying more fervently. And His sweat became like large drops of blood falling on the ground.
- And having risen from prayer, and having come to the disciples, He found them sleeping from grief,
- and He said to them: “Why are you sleeping? Having risen, pray so you might not enter into temptation.”
- “With Him still speaking, behold, a crowd came. And the man called Judas (one of the twelve) was leading them, and he approached Jesus to kiss Him.
- And Jesus said to him: “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
- And having seen the men around Him and guessing what will happen, they said: “Lord, shall we strike with a sword?”
- And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear.
- And answering, Jesus said: “Permit even this.” And having touched the ear, He healed him.
- And to the men who came against Him (chief priests, captains of the temple guard, and elders), Jesus said: “You come out against Me with swords and clubs like you would against a violent robber?”
- “Despite Me being with you in the temple every day, you didn’t stretch out your hands against Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”
- And having seized Him, they led Him away, and led Him into the house of the high priest. And Peter was following from afar.
Peter denies Jesus
- And having lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and having sat down together, Peter was sitting in their midst.
- And having seen him sitting by the light and stared at him, a slave girl said: “This man was also with Him.”
- But he denied it, saying: “Woman, I don’t know Him.”
- And having seen him, another man was declaring after a short while: “You’re one of them also.” But Peter was declaring: “Man, I am not.”
- And about one hour having passed, another man was insisting, saying: “In truth, this man was also with Him, for he’s also a Galilean.”
- But Peter said: “Man, I don’t *know what you’re saying.” And instantly, while he’s still speaking, a rooster crowed.
- And having turned, the Lord looked at Peter, and Peter was reminded of the word of the Lord, how He told him: “Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.”
- And having gone outside, he wept bitterly.
Jesus is mocked, beaten, and tried
- And the men, the ones holding Him, were mocking Him and beating Him.
- And having blindfolded Him, they [were striking His face and] were questioning Him, saying: “Prophesy, who is the man who hit you?”
- And blaspheming, they were saying many other things to Him.
- And when it became day, the council of the people’s elders and both the chief priests and the scribes were assembled, and they brought Him into their Sanhedrin, saying:
- “If you are the Anointed, tell us.” And He told them: “If I told you, you definitely wouldn’t believe.
- “And if I asked, you definitely wouldn’t answer.
- “Yet from now on, the Son of Man will be sitting at the right hand of the power of God.”
- And they all said: “So, are you the Son of God?” And He was declaring to them: “You are correctly saying that I Am.”
- And they said: “What further need do we have of testimony? For we ourselves heard it from His mouth.”
